The Miramichi
Branch of the Genealogical Society was founded in 1991.
The Society meets
from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on the fourth Tuesday in each month at the Chatham Library, situated at 31 King Street, Miramichi,
N.B. Each month they have a speaker followed by a business meeting.
They have 110 members
of which approximately 50% are from outside the City. They
recently completed their Cemetery Project where they visited over 115 cemeteries in Northumberland County transcribing the
information on existing tombstones. The data was produced and published in indexed
book form according to Parish. They are also transcribing the Northumberland
County Census and to date have completed 1851-1891. These publications are for
sale by visiting their Website at www.nbgsmiramichi.org
Their volunteers
are also collecting & typing obituaries that have Northumberland County connections and, to date, have posted over 6,000
on the Website. The Society will set up their genealogical display of resource
materials at any festivals, old home weeks or reunions to which they get invited.
On Friday, August 16, 2008 they will be at the Miramichi Scottish Festival and hope to see you there to answer questions
and to help you with tracing your family tree.
